Customer Reviews: Fluval Edge facelift.July 29, 2010 MidtownMrDoggie Love the designer-look on my Fluval Edge; but I made a few modifications..now it's awesome. I painted the base and lid in expresso w/spray paint for plastics(I used painter tape to cover silver mesh). Its now sateen brown with the silver mesh. It looks amazing. The issue with the lights was easy, I used needle nose plyers to bend the legs of the actual bulb, it allows me to angle the halogen bulb to light the tank much better.
I used the gravel that looks like sand and my fluval edge is all pimped out. I highly recommend this tank if you are not afraid to customize it a little.
Posting pic of my edgy Edge.
Fluval EDGE AquariumJuly 18, 2010 Frank What an aquarium! The best I've seen and I had a lot of aquariums long ago. After seeing this one, I may get back into the hobby!
The only complaint I had was the Halogen lamps that came with the kit. I replaced them with White LED's wide angle lights. They run cooler and produce a pleasant lighting effect.

The design is perfect, I love the way it looks. My only complaint, is that I wish they made a 10 gallon version. Reviewers have mentioned that cleaning is difficult, but I don't find that a problem (buy a small mag float - helps in between water changes). Upgrading the light bulbs is necessary, I replaced them with LED bulbs (found online) and that made a huge difference in appearance (my plants were happier, too).
The edge has some optional accessories, some I like/some I don't. I wasn't satisfied with the Fluval Edge heater, never kept a steady temp. However, I really like the bamboo wall accessory.
Great design! Insufficient light for aquatic plants.February 2, 2010 Beach Dude(Los Angeles) 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
Aesthetics are important. I dislike traditional aquariums and wanted a product that concealed the pump, heater, cords, etc. I chose the Edge over the BioOrb because it's made from real glass, doesn't obligate me to use cheesy synthetic plants, and is well designed. I love the appearance of the product, but there are a few functional flaws you need to be aware of if you decide to purchase. First, its two halogen lights are insufficient. They effectively light up the center of the aquarium, but the edges go dark. This limits the ability to use aquatic plants that traditionally don't require CO2. The Edge does not come with a heater, however, the power cord can easily be run through the same conduit that conceals the pump. Do not purchase African Frogs as there is no air at the top (which is also one of it's better qualities). The box also says the aquarium is ideal for goldfish, but nothing could be further from the truth. Goldfish require large aquariums and produce a considerable amount of waste. They also grow quite quickly. It's difficult to clean the Edge, so go the low maintenance route. I added a heater, a few low-light aquatic plants, and some neons. No issues. The pump is more than adequate for the size of the aquarium. In fact, you may need to adjust the power to 50% as it's a little strong for fish. I highly recommend this product if you don't a mind a little maintenance and a limited ability to grow plants.
