| Customer Reviews: Poor Investment August 25, 2010 EthrinOfCygnus I have 6 bettas at home, all happy and healthy and I decided to get a betta for my work desk. I bought this tank for it in the hopes that my boss would like it (she did) since we have a shared space. I was aware of the fact that I would have to clean such a small tank often and was willing to do so, but what I was suprised by was just how quickly this little thing got dirty. The water looked nasty before I even put the fish in. This is after I spent a good while washing the gravel and rocks included in the kit. Within a day I was worried about the fish's health and the second day my concerns were confirmed, my betta became lethargic, refused to eat and became paler. Over all the tank was too small, and I suspect there was some impurity in either the tank itself of the gravel included.
Good but filter too strong for bettas June 27, 2010 GenXmom (San Jose, CA) I like this aquarium setup; however, the filter current is too strong for young bettas and quite possibly for fully grown ones. My betta is blown by the current, so this is just to tell you that many bettas prefer no current at all. I would recommend a different type of filtration for this tank.
Great bowl for Bettas! March 24, 2010 J. Brown (Charlotte, NC USA) This bowl is awesome! It gives the fish room to swim, the light keeps the water warm on cool nights, and there is room for plants and caves. My fish love it! And so do I because it's small enough to be inconspicuous but large enough for the fish to happy and healthy. Great buy!
Great for Bettas! March 3, 2010 Peg (petaluma, ca United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This aquarium with, separately purchased heater, and thermometer, is great for Bettas!!
I have never seen a happier, more active Betta! (It helps getting out of the deli-container.) But in a larger bowl he was still lethargic,,,then...I got this 2.5 gallon mini-bow with its ultra-gentle and quiet filter, popped in a heater pad, (my last betta froze to death over a long weekend,,poor Lance) and he is a different little guy. Great cover for curious kitties, with a convenient little feeding chute
at the front. The filter does not disturb the food or prevent the creation of bubble nests.
I leave the light on for cool nights as the heater only increases the temp a few degrees.
He has not only grown in the past 3 weeks, but has flourished , his colors are awesome and he is always puffing and strutting his stuff. and not just for food either.
Ok,so I provoke him sometimes, but its good excercise.
Well worth the money and the excessories if you want a happy fish.
I love my mini bow and so does my betta November 17, 2009 Tiggy Bird (Gaithersburg, MD) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
After the most recent demise of my last Betta- Hot Temper, who bless his heart, lived 2 years in a 1 gallon fish bowl, I found myself in a fish store (not so soon after, I did mourn the little guy). Wandering about I could not deny my instant love for a feisty beautiful little guy the size of a small drapery tassel, I brought him home (instant gratification and instant love is my middle name)...and proceeded to give him 'Hot Temper's' life all over again (yes...in a bowl), but this time I thought he might benefit from living at work with me (I work all the time)...fast forward to cute little fish, living on my desk, and between calls me looking up just what might make him happy (er)...I come to a sudden realization that I sucked as a fish mom(formerly) and needed to give the little guy what he truly deserved, more oxygen, more "toys", more room and heat. I bought this little aquarium wonder (w/a black top),bye bye bowl, and wow have I got one happy fish! This tank is an easy set up,the filter (that worried me sick) is great, it will not swallow or eat your Betta (as far as I can tell so far...thank goodness!),he is not struggling through any major currents and as far as I can tell, he is a happy camper (or show off). I purchased a small heater to keep his temp at what is most conducive to his normal habitat, my Betta is making bubbles nests, and showing off like a full finned champ. I always thought I had a happy Betta, until now, this fish is unbelievably active and showy. I know it's a fish, but he sure reminds me of a puppy with fins! I love this little tank, perfect on a desk top, easy to set up, perfect for a Betta (just buy a heater, plants, gravel and hiding nook and you're set!) Love this!!
