Product Description
Perfect for home or office or any location, the silent-operating Eclipse Hex 5 is the only aquarium of its kind with total three-stage filtration - the same high-efficiency filtration employed in our much larger aquatic systems. And the Eclipse Hex 5 has Marineland's patented BIO-Wheel, undisputed leader in biological filtration.

5 out of 5 stars Great Multi-View Hexagon-Shaped Fish Tank!   December 28, 2008

Recently I received a beautiful male Betta in a round fish bowl as a housewarming gift. "Puffin" was inactive, just floated around, and appeared bored. It seemed cruel to keep him in such a small home, so a few days later I researched and then bought this great multi-view hexagon fish tank, a live bamboo plant with lots of leaves, a pretty rainbow rock, and some artificial plants of varying heights and styles. Also added a Marineland Stealth 25 watt (up to 8 gallons) heater to keep the water at the perfectly-set temperature, and a Marineland timer to schedule the on/off lighting times of the underhood light. Within minutes of being placed in this fish tank, Puffin "came alive" and was energetically swimming around and exploring his new home. And, as another reviewer noted about her fish, my Betta gets his exercise by swimming against the filter's water flow and letting it push him backwards...just like a little kid riding the waves on a boogy board! He really enjoys it! I love the tank's hexagon shape because it provides easy viewing from any angle in the room. Relaxing on the couch with only the light from the fish tank illuminating the room, and listening to the whisper-soft sound of the water is soooo soothing! My friends and family love it, too! Would highly recommend this fish tank to anyone with a Betta or with 3-5 small fish.

4 out of 5 stars I love how it looks   December 23, 2008

This tank looks great, especially at night when the light is on in a dark room. I love the shape of hex tanks, but I do have to say that fish prefer a rectangular aquarium compared to a tall one. Fish swim side to side much more than up and down. I have 6 colorful guppies in this tank and they are very happy in there. What I did do though, is throw away the filter and wheel that came with this kit and I put a small Wisper intank filter in it instead. The reason I did this was that the original filter and wheel were so noisy no matter what I did and it seemed too complicated for me. I have had a lot of experience with Whisper intank filters and I love them the best.

5 out of 5 stars Just what I needed   November 14, 2008

Before I decided to go back to college I had many beautiful aquariums, including a 55gal planted tank that I loved. Unfortunately, now, I simply don't have the time to maintain them (and the electricity it took to run them was causing headaches when I got the bills, too)

This tank is perfect for me now. It's easy to maintain, but it filters and operates just like a larger aquarium (as opposed to those old school "small aquarium" filters that were a complete joke). I've always liked a tank more on the "overstocked" side, so I'll have to be careful to keep myself in check with this one because it's so small. (Exceeding capacity in a tank this small would not be a good idea at all.) All-in-all it really is very nice looking and convenient.

5 out of 5 stars Hex 5 Saved My Betta's Life   October 26, 2008

This summer I bought my first betta and put him in one of those cute Peace Lily containers. My betta was a pretty picky eater, so I finally ended up feeding him some kind of food that the Aquarium store SAID was a balanced diet. WRONG. Slowly, I noticed him getting sicker and sicker and losing his color, and becoming less and less active until it was obvious he was dying. I didn't know what to do! After lots more research and reading the 5-Star Reviews, I decided to buy a Hex 5 Aquarium. My first stop was Wal Mart and I bought the Aqua Tec for $30. The reviews led me to believe it was the exact same as the Marineland. Well, AFTER I had set it up, complete with gravel and plants, did I discover that that thing was LOUD! It sounded like a freight train in our bedroom! I finally got up in the middle of the night and "pulled the plug" so I could sleep. The next day I promptly returned it to Wal Mart with no problem, went to PetSmart, and sprung for the $50 Marineland Eclipse Hex 5. There was only a small difference in the set-up between the two tanks. It has a plastic cover that separates the water from the light, but it is WHISPER QUIET! Do NOT buy the Aqua Tec from Wal Mart unless you don't mind the noise. (MY sleep was worth the extra $20!) I bought my betta Cabella some Jungle Anti-Bacteria Medicated Fish Food and fed him that exclusively for 10 days, then put him on Hikari Betta Bio-Gold, which he loved immediately. Now he is a happy, active COLORFUL betta again, who comes to his little opening and begs for his food. He LOVES his new mansion and gets his exercise by swimming against the flow and letting it push him backwards. Wheee!!!! Praise the Lord!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great tank! Now I want more!   July 20, 2008

This is a really good tank. It's not too big and not too small either, for a child. Just the right size for my 5 year old. The filter is extremely quiet. You can barely hear it. The water has stayed clear so far but it has only been a week. I have a nice blue Betta in there and he seems to love it. I like the small door perfectly located so you can easily feed the fish. Open, feed, and then close the door. Nice bright light bulb is one of those energy saving bulbs. Not sure why one reviewer said the light is yellow because my light is a nice bright white. The only problem is that now I wish I bought a bigger tank. Keep in mind that this tank is perfect for a child, but now that I have this tank, I'm getting all interested in fish. I highly recommend this tank as long as you stick with your original plan of keeping it simple. If you become interested yourself, you will be looking for a larger, rectangular tank.
