Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Perfect for home or office or any location, the silent-operating Eclipse Hex 5 is the only aquarium of its kind with total three-stage filtration - the same high-efficiency filtration employed in our much larger aquatic systems. And the Eclipse Hex 5 has Marineland's patented BIO-Wheel, undisputed leader in biological filtration.
Motor doesnt last that long but nice otherwiseJuly 22, 2010 M. Martinez Right now I have 3 angelfish and 1 pleaco. I love that it is quiet and easy to maintain. Just change the filter and part of the water every month or so. Well, and feed the fish. I've never had a heater in it. It has kept a temp of about 77. I turn the light on when I'm at work and off when I leave. Must be the motor keeping it warm. Speaking of which the filter motor died last week, and I had to replace it. I love, love, love this tank! I got this tank as a gift about 3 or 4 years ago. It has been set up on my desk since I received it. I have had live plants and various fish. Sometimes a betta and a few corys.
Faulty filter?July 15, 2010 Nicole L. Strack I just purchased the 3 gallon tank of this for my female betta. It's cute and has lots of space. However if you fill the tank past the line as indicated by the directions, the water will leak out from the rim. In order to get the bio-wheel going, you have to follow the directions exactly. Make sure everything's in place and then you'll see the wheel start spinning. So far it's a great place to home any small fish you might have...my only complaint is that the filter is too noisy. Maybe my filter's just faulty or something. I don't know about any other customers who've had this problem. :) But that's an easy fix so it's not so bad. Overall pretty good for the price!
Good Small TankJuly 7, 2010 Hawkeye479 I bought this tank in Jan '09 and its still running great. I think some of the other reviewers don't realize you have to clean the impeller shaft in the pump monthly to prevent the motor from burning out (this is true for ANY aquarium pump).
Very Well designed one Stop Aquarium set up!July 4, 2010 pixmaker(New York, NY) I received the hex aquarium today and I couldn't be happier.
Bought my two gold fish after I ordered the fish tank over a week ago.
The deliver from the vendor is kinda slow so I bought a one gallon fish bowl and put the two gold fishes in it.
Boy, I have to change the water every single day because gold fishes poop a lot despite my cautious effort to feed them very sparingly.
So I am very relieved today when the hex tank finally arrived.
Went to the pet store to buy me a couple of plants, some blue colored rocks to accent the gold fish color, and also bought a tiny air pump and a windmill-spinning air bubbler.
Went home to set the whole tank up and fill up the water and add some water conditioner that come with the fish tank, plug everything on and voila!
I waited for an hour to put the two gold fishes in it and they couldn't be happier with the new location.
I say go for it if you want a decent size fish tank to house two or three fishes.
This is a very well thought-out design for a fish tank, down to the placement of electrical cables and available holes for the optional air hose and heater.
I have had many fish tanks and fishes when I was a little boy and this is by far the best tank I own.
I am planning to buy an algae eater fish and maybe one more black gold fish and the tank is complete.
I noticed some reviewer put a betta fish in this big tank, I think that's just overkill because betta is very zen most of the time and does not need a space this big to swim around.
I recommend putting some more energetic species like gold fishes that provide you some entertainment with their funny antics.

meant to say activated carbon instead of charcoal, but either way you can save money buying bonded filter pad which you can change more often because of price.
oh yeah, for the kids, don't overfeed your fish. it's better to underfeed them than overfeed them in my opinion. :-)
